Fall protection/basic of OSHA regulations
Falling hazard poses a significant risk of serious injury or death to personnel working at heights. OSHA has developed safety standards to help employees who need to work at heights to improve safety. The personal fall arrest system is essential to the safety of personnel working at heights.
A personal fall arrest system that complies with OSHA regulations usually includes four components:
According to OSHA's definition, an anchoring device is a safe fall protection anchor point that is used to secure a lifeline, sling or deceleration device and is designed to remain firm under the force generated during fall braking. The anchorage varies by industry, job, installation type and structure.
Body support refers to fall protection equipment that directly supports the weight of the worker and keeps the body in a safe position. Worker comfort, fit and ease of use are key factors to consider when choosing human support equipment (such as full-body seat belts). Workers may need to wear this support equipment for a long time during the working day.
